Microsoft details smart watch service plan

REDMOND, Wash.-Microsoft Corp. released details of MSN Direct, the service plan it will offer for the smart watches that Bill Gates, Microsoft’s chairman and chief software architect, described earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Subscribers to MSN Direct will be able to access information via the watches, including news, weather, sports scores, stock quotes, movies, dining and games, as well as receive messages via MSN Messenger and calendar appointment reminders from Microsoft Outlook.

MSN Direct service, which is part of Microsoft’s Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT) initiative, will be available for $9.95 per month or, as an introductory offer, $59 per year. The watches, available from Fossil Inc. and Suunto, cost $100 to $300.
