Spectrum is a source the wireless industry cannot get enough of. With consumer demand for wireless services on an ever-increasing track, wireless carriers and equipment providers are constantly on the lookout for new spectrum resources.
Danielle Coffey, VP of government affairs at TIA, provided insight into how the organization views the government’s current plans to put more spectrum into the hands of the wireless industry as well as challenges facing the segment in its attempt to secure more spectrum assets. Coffey highlighted the upcoming auction of 600 MHz spectrum, dubbed the “incentive auction,” and plans for spectrum sharing in the 1.7 GHz band with the Department of Defense. Coffey also talks about plans to bring spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band to market for use in small cell deployments as well as spectrum in the 5 GHz band for unlicensed use.
