MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.-Last Mile Technologies has completed the first phase of a citywide wireless local area network using equipment supplied by Proxim Corp., Sunnyvale, Calif.
Some 4,500 Central Michigan University students living in eight apartment complexes off-campus now can access the college’s network without need of a wireline modem and can work collaboratively with other students in their residences via wireless LANs. By August, Last Mile expects to connect another 5,000 students in other off-campus apartment developments.
In addition, the carrier is engaged in a staged rollout of WLAN connectivity for businesses in Mount Pleasant, and it plans to offer residential service by year-end.
