CTIA expands data focus to content creation community

WASHINGTON-The wireless data arm of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association said it plans to expand its focus to include the rapidly growing content creation community, and that content companies Jippii USA, Kargo, Mobliss, m-Qube, Moviso, News Corp. and Pinnacor have joined the group.

CTIA’s Wireless Internet Caucus Leadership Council, which was first founded during the group’s annual show last year, said it will expand in order to cover a greater portion of the wireless data value chain.

“When CTIA first introduced the WIC Leadership Council at the WIRELESS 2002 conference in Orlando last year, it was an ambitious effort to galvanize the key decision makers leading the wireless Internet industry,” said Mark Desautels, vice president of wireless Internet development at CTIA. “The response we received to this industrywide initiative has been overwhelming. In order to better reflect and develop the complete wireless data ecosystem, CTIA has invited a number of new participants, particularly from the content community, to join the Leadership Council. This enhanced body not only bestows additional wisdom and leadership on the council, but these companies’ high level of interest reflects the excitement and momentum behind our efforts to remove impediments to the adoption of wireless data and mobile Internet products and services.”
