TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it will expand its wideband CDMA-based FOMA service in the Kanto Koshinetsu region beginning Feb. 22 with 400 additional cell sites and cover approximately 97 percent of the regional populated areas.
The carrier said the expansion will increase nationwide coverage of the FOMA service to around 89 percent of the country’s population with plans to further expand coverage to 91 percent by the end of March. DoCoMo forecasts it will cover 97 percent of the country’s population with approximately 2,600 cell sites by the end of March 2004.
