ATLANTA-Internet service provider EarthLink said it will sell wireless laptop modems running over a national CDMA 1xRTT network, a move that further expands the ISP’s wireless strategy.
EarthLink wouldn’t say what network it is reselling-either that of Sprint PCS or Verizon Wireless.
EarthLink’s new EarthLink Wireless Enhanced Access for Your Laptop service will go nationwide this year, and will offer average transmission speeds of 40-60 kbps, the company said. The company’s tiered-price service plans start at $25 per month and range from 5MB to 50MB of data transmission.
The news follows EarthLink’s previous moves into wireless, which include the company’s alliance with GoAmerica Inc. for wireless enterprise and Boingo for 802.11 networks, and acquisition of assets of OmniSky Corp.
