NEW YORK-Nokia Corp. more than doubled its net profit last quarter, earning $1.05 billion, or 24 cents per share, on net sales of $9.51 billion.
For the year, the Finnish handset heavyweight reported a net profit of $3.64 billion, a 54-percent increase from 2001, and net income per share of 70 cents, up from 50 cents. However, net sales for the year dropped by 4 percent to $30.29 billion.
Record fourth-quarter handset sales, reaching 46 million units, helped propel the company’s year-end total to 152 million, a 9-percent increase from the 2001 fiscal year.
