InterDigital to get $500,000 from Samsung

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.-The International Court of Arbitration ruled that Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. must pay InterDigital Communications Corp. an extra $500,000 due to a dispute over the companies’ patent licensing agreement.

The dispute springs from patents covering TDMA p
oducts Samsung licensed from InterDigital in 1997. Earlier this year, InterDigital filed a complaint against Samsung, accusing the company of misrepresenting its TDMA handset sales and violating the licensing agreement. During the arbitration process, Samsung renegotiated its contract with InterDigital and agreed to pay an extra $500,000 in licensing fees.

InterDigital said it could not disclose details of its negotiations with Samsung due to the court’s disclosure rules.
