Looking to perhaps boost customer interest, through the end of the year Sprint’s Boost Mobile brand is boosting the amount of services available through its International Connect Mexico Mobile Plus package.
The package, which customers to Boost’s Unlimited plan can add for $15 per month, will now provide for 1,000 calling minutes to mobile devices in Mexico, unlimited calling to landline phones in Mexico and unlimited messaging to mobile devices in Mexico. All of these services must originate from the Sprint/Boost network in the United States.
Boost Mobile previously offered a smaller tier of services targeting Mexico, including a $5 package that included unlimited calls to landlines and text messaging, and a $10 package that priced voice calls to mobile devices in Mexico at five cents per minute.
Sprint recently posted poor third-quarter customer results, with the carrier losing a total of 313,000 customers during the quarter. However, the carrier’s prepaid and wholesale partners managed to add 265,000 customers during the quarter, showing the reliance the carrier has on those channels. Sprint’s direct prepaid channels include Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile USA and Assurance Wireless.
The no-contract market segment has seen increased competition over the past year with rival T-Mobile US basically doing away with service contracts and a handful of mobile virtual network operators popping up. Sprint does power a number of these MVNO’s but garners a stronger share of revenues through its own no-contract services.
Boost Mobile earlier this month began offering Apple’s iPhone line in a move that could help attract more customers and joins Virgin Mobile USA in offering the iconic smartphone line.
