Agilent Technologies opens R&D center in Beijing

BEIJING-Agilent Technologies has opened a research and development center in Beijing focused on developing software tools for designing third-generation (3G) devices and components.

This includes testing solutions for China’s own 3G standard TD-SCDMA. About 120 people in Agilent’s China Communication Operation (CCO) currently are working on applications for TD-SCDMA. Agilent Technologies Vice President Guy Sene told China Daily’s Business Weekly that the headcount would be increased to 170 in 2003.

China is Agilent Technologies’ third-largest market and is expected to move up to second place soon. Despite slowing subscriber growth, China’s telecommunications market still provides huge opportunities, added Guy Sene.
