DUBLIN, Ireland-The music appears to have stopped on the game of managerial musical chairs at T-Mobile International, with Rene Obermann being unveiled as successor to Kai-Uwe Ricke, who has stepped into the top job at Deutsche Telekom.
The incoming chairman will be joined on the board of T-Mobile International by Timotheus Hoettges and Hamid Akhavan. They will replace Bob Stapleton, who will no longer sit on the T-Mobile board but retains his role as vice chairman of T-Mobile USA.
Hamid Akhavan will head the newly created Network and Information Technology unit with responsibility for development, deployment and operation of all network and information technology (IT) systems across T-Mobile’s European companies. Timotheus Hoettges will be responsible for the Sales and Service Operations unit.
“The restructuring of the top management level and the resulting shift of additional operational responsibility to board of management level is another important step toward turning the previously loose association of individual companies in their respective countries into one company working together,” said Ricke, who is also chairman of the supervisory board of T-Mobile.
