NEW YORK-Telemac Corp., Los Angeles, said it has received a patent covering a method of prepaid wireless services “where the accounting functions are performed within network-edge devices, i.e. mobile phones, personal digital assistants and subscriber identity module cards, and the tariff data within the device is updated over-the-air by data-bearing communications such as SMS messages.”
The patent, which is the 29th so far for the company, also covers over-the-air updates of available credit and disablement of devices, like those used fraudulently or that have exceeded their credit limits. It also covers the use of a computer servers to detect fraud.
