TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo, the dominant mobile carrier in Japan, launched a mobile handset that can be used as a television remote control as well. Users of the N504iS handset, manufactured by NEC, can remotely control a television set similar to a normal TV remote control by hitting buttons on the handset.
The handset can work for almost any kind of televisions made by any manufacturers, DoCoMo said. The handset is also equipped with a new function for letting users register telephone numbers and mail addresses by taking a photo of them printed on a business card or a magazine.
The price for the handset is open. However, it is expected to sell at around 30,000 yen (US$2,400).
