NEW YORK-A surge in wireless handset sales helped Samsung Electronics Co. close its third quarter with net income of $1.37 billion, compared with $333 million a year ago. The company did not break out net income per share for either quarter.
The South Korean electronics giant posted sales of $7.9 billion, of which it derived $5.6 billion from exports. Last year at the same time, Samsung reaped $5.7 billion in sales, of which $3.7 billion came from exports.
Wireless handset revenues totaled $2.3 billion last quarter, up from $1.4 billion during the same period of 2001.
