NEW YORK-Motorola Inc., Schaumburg, Ill., reported a third-quarter net sales decline to $6.37 billion from $7.4 billion a year ago, but it also posted substantial improvements in other important performance benchmarks.
The company’s net earnings were $111 million, compared to a net loss of $1.41 billion during the third quarter of 2001. Net earnings per share were five cents, in contrast to 64-cent loss per share a year earlier.
Net margin on sales improved to 1.7 percent, vs. a 19 percent net margin loss. Operating earnings totaled $341 million, compared to a $1.78 billion loss.
