PARIS-Vodafone Spain and Nortel Networks presented details of the rollout program for Vodafone’s UMTS network in Spain. A Vodafone executive said network coverage has been deployed in 23 cities and 98 municipalities during the first half of this year.
The companies said they have met all regulatory requirements and regularly carry out live calls using voice and data, and have performed interoperability testing with infrastructure and handset suppliers.
Spain was expected to see some of the first commercial UMTS deployments in Europe, but launches have been delayed due to a lack of handsets and demand from consumers as in other European markets.
