FREMONT, Calif.-Wireless software company Insignia Solutions announced it developed a program to allow Java-based applications to run on wireless devices using Microsoft Corp.’s operating system for smart phones.
Device makers using Microsoft’s Smartphone 2002 operating system can license Insignia’s Java virtual machine program, which allows wireless applications based on Sun Microsystems Inc.’s Java 2 Micro Edition standard to run on the device.
Microsoft, currently facing off against rival Sun in legal battles, has resisted efforts to include support for Java technology in its products.
