CHILLICOTHE, Ohio-Sprint PCS affiliate Horizon PCS Inc. said it added 12,400 net customers during the second quarter, which was nearly half the 21,600 customers it added during the second quarter last year, ending the quarter with 235,100 total subscribers.
The carrier blamed the decrease in customer additions to competitive pressure, the implementation of deposits for sub-prime customers during the quarter and delayed purchases due to the expected launch of its next-generation network.
Average revenue per user including roaming dropped from $82 last year to $75 this year with customer churn increasing from 2.1 percent to 3.2 percent.
Total revenues more than doubled for the quarter from $24.8 million last year to $51.8 million this year with net losses rising from $27.3 million last year, a loss of 51 cents per share, to $42.7 million this year, a loss of 78 cents per share.
