WorldCom expected to file for bankruptcy soon

CLINTON, Miss.-WorldCom is expected to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection by early next week, according to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal.

The bankruptcy filing, which would stand as the largest in U.S. history, would allow the company to continue to operate while working to emerge from under its hefty $28 billion debt.

Following widespread reports of the possible bankruptcy filing, shares of WorldCom tumbled more than 31 percent to trade at .062 cents on Friday afternoon.
