JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-South Africa’s third cellular network operator Cell C has reportedly implemented a suite of locally developed business critical software solutions.
The suite, developed by PM Ora Software, monitors, manages and administers the network’s array of 30 databases hosted on as many servers in a clustered and parallel server environment. The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications suite and the Unix operating system make up Cell C’s business-critical applications.
Nassif El-Assaad, information technology (IT) manager at Cell C, said IT is a critical area for the fledgling organization. “For a rapidly growing company operating in the dynamic telecoms sector, IT is an important area,” he said. “Downtime is costly and unacceptable, given our commitment to service.
“Fast access to our business databases and the trouble-free operation of our business-critical applications and operating environment have to be ‘a given.'”
Following an evaluation of several monitoring and administration solutions, Cell C has implemented PM Ora Software’s database administration and enterprise monitoring solutions for both Unix and Web-enabled systems.
“The fact that a company such as Cell C selected our solutions ahead of those of international suppliers is an endorsement of our solutions in the highly competitive world arena,” said Mike Leeuwen, director, PM Tech.
“Web enablement is a key factor for Cell C. Managers can access key performance data from any PC via a browser. Other benefits include proactive notification of potential problems, custom performance reports, growth and capacity reports, and a single application interface and built-in notification for all levels,” said El-Assaad.
