SOPHIA-ANTIPOLIS, France-The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) said it established a new task force to develop mobile signature standards. Mobile signatures are used to authenticate the identity of a person using a mobile phone for purchases.
The aim of the new task force is to define a precise architecture, protocols between service providers, signatures gateway and general security requirements to achieve interoperability among all groups involved in signature architecture. The group will focus on four tasks-defining an m-signature Web service, technically specifying an m-signature Web service, defining a common set of security requirements, and defining a means to allow roaming, related data and protocols.
Work is expected to begin in September and to be completed by April 2003, with deliverables for the first two tasks expected by end-2002.
