Telekom Malaysia to invest US$150 million in Bangladesh

NEW DELHI, India-Telekom Malaysia (TM) has decided to invest US$150 million to expand the network of its cellular joint venture in Bangladesh, TM International Bangladesh (TMIB), during the next three years.

The company has already invested US$70 million in the venture and hopes to double its subscriber base from the current 100,000 by the end of the year, Ezanee Ab Aziz, TMIB managing director, announced in Dhaka on Tuesday. TMIB, a joint venture between TM and AK Khan and Company of Bangladesh, operates under the Aktel brand.

The network currently covers Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Munshiganj, Comilla, Feni, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet and Jessore. It will be extended to cover 13 more districts by August.
