ZTE Releases Future-proof Optical Transport Network Device for Metro Edge Layer

ZTE | June 27, 2011 | Press Release

ZXMP M721 enables end to end optical metro transport network

27 June 2011, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that has released a compact optical transport network (OTN) metro edge layer device, the ZXMP M721, that further builds ZTE’s ability to deliver future-proof end-to-end metro transport networks.

The trend towards All-IP telecommunications services, and the evolution of IP networks, brings huge challenges to transport networks. Fixed/mobile network convergence and cluster router deployment also require that the transport network should have multi-service bearing capability, higher bandwidth and adaptability to a MESH typology structure. In response to these trends, ZTE released the new generation iOTN transport platform in late 2010, including the ZXONE 8000, ZXWM M920 and ZXMP M820 series products. Integrated with WASON, PXC, L2 switching and OTN technology, these products have intelligent control plane, large-capacity optical/electrical layer service dispatching and reliable carrier-class protection functions, and can meet various transmission requirements from the long-distance backbone layer to the metro layer.

With the large-scale commercial deployment of 3G, LTE, IPTV and broadband access services and the continuous development of new concepts such as the Smart City, the Smart Grid, the Internet of Things and tri-network integration, operators’ bearer networks, in most cases, require substantial development to be able to deliver these new services.

The ZXMP M721, launched at the 2011 WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking exhibition in Monaco, was developed to help solve these challenges. The latest addition to ZTE’s iOTN product family, it enables ZTE to provide global operators with complete end-to-end (E2E) OTN solutions from the metro edge layer to the metro core and backbone layers.

The ZXMP M721’s powerful and flexible networking technologies including fast E2E service provisioning, E2E service dispatching, E2E OAM (operation, administration and maintenance) and E2E 1588 V2 time synchronisation can help ZTE deliver one of the telecom industry’s major goals – the unified, future-proof E2E OTN metro transport network.

“We believe ZTE’s ZXMP M721 is the best and smallest integrated device in the industry,” said Mr Fan Xiaobing, General Manager of ZTE’s Bearer Network product line. “Featuring large capacity, intelligence and high reliability, it can help global customers to build controllable intelligent optical networks that extend to the metro edge and lead the growing development of E2E OTNs.”

Only 1U or 2U high, the ZXMP M721 is a compact and intelligent OTN device that supports DC and AC power supply, and includes a range of new technologies to meet the changing requirements of metro edge layer networking.

Its network control processor and power board support 1+1 backup; it supports access at any rate from 100Mbit/s to 4.25Gbit/s; it enables aggregation of 4~22 services and smooth upgrade to one optical channel; it supports L2 switching with complete OAM function and 1588 V2 time synchronization; and it can support up to 8 wavelengths of CWDM 10G transmission to enable the integrated and seamless interconnection of CWDM and DWDM.
