BEIJING—In the first four months of 2002, China added 21,836,000 mobile-phone subscribers, the People’s Telecommunications newspaper reported in its 22 May edition.
The total number of mobile subscribers is now at 170 million. The number of fixed-line subscribers is 190 million. The number of paging subscribers decreased 6.87 million to less than 30 million.
In the first four months of the year, income from mobile services made up 46.4 percent of the total telecommunications revenue of 124.57 billion yuan (US$15.06 billion), which increased 16.1 percent compared with the same period last year.
