China’s largest handset maker plans stock exchange listing

BEIJING—China’s largest domestic mobile handset maker China Putian is planning an overseas listing. The company sold 28.96 million handsets last year. China Putian is about to appoint Lehman Brothers and China International Capital Corporation (CICC) to assist in its overseas listing, but the scale, timing and location of the listing have yet to be finalized.

The company is either seeking a listing in Hong Kong or a dual listing in Hong Kong and New York.

The Chinese Ministry of Information Industry (MII) ranked China Putian number one in its list of information technology companies, ahead of the Haier Group and Legend Holdings. China Putian’s revenue jumped 38.1 percent to 64.24 billion yuan (US$7.77 billion), while profit surged 22.9 percent to 26.43 billion yuan (US$3.2 billion).

China Putian was originally known as the China Posts and Telecommunications Industry Corporation (PTIC) under the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT).
