Wolff named CEO, chairman at ICO

Satellite communications company ICO Global Communications Holdings Ltd. appointed former Clearwire Corp. CEO Benjamin Wolff chairman of its board of directions effective immediately and that Wolff would become CEO of ICO beginning Dec. 31.
The appointment comes as ICO’s acting CEO, executive VP and CFO Michael Corkery said he will resign all of his positions at the company effective Dec. 31 in order to pursue another career opportunity. Wolff replaces industry veteran Craig McCaw as chairman of ICO. McCaw will remain on the company’s board of directors.
Wolff’s position as CEO is expected to be a temporary one as the company is looking for a permanent CEO
Mr. Wolff is expected to serve as the Chief Executive Officer on an interim basis while the Company conducts a search for a permanent Chief Executive Officer. Wolff served as a director at ICO from September 2005 until December 2008, and has served as chairman of the company’s DBSD North America Inc. subsidiary since December 2008.

ICO has been struggling for years to launch its satellite-based communications service. The company announced a partnership with Alcatel-Lucent in early 2008 to power a DVB-SH based mobile television service targeting the automotive industry, and earlier this year showed off the service at the CES event in Las Vegas.
