NEW YORK—Medis Technologies Ltd., which is developing direct liquid ethanol fuel cells for use in wireless handsets and other portable electronic devices, has received notice the U.S. Patent Office plans to grant it a patent for a new class of catalyst called a “gas diffusion electrode” and for the method of preparing it.
“The allowed (patent) claims relate to the basic components of our fuel cell technology,” Robert K. Lifton, chairman and chief executive officer, said April 18.
