TPK, a leading touch screen manufacturer, said it was not concerned about Chimei Innolux entering the touch screen market, the local United Evening News reported yesterday.
“Demand will be way over supply next year,” TPK said, expressing its confidence it won’t lose orders from its clients.
TPK is one of Apple Inc.’s major suppliers and makes touch screens for the iPhone and iPad.
TPK made the remarks after reports yesterday that Chimei Innolux has been certified by Apple and has received orders to make touch screens for the iPhone 4 and second-generation iPad. Chimei Innolux has declined to comment on those reports.
Yet Chimei Innolux has taken action to increase its presence in the touch screen market. Thursday, it announced a plan to invest US$20 million in its Chinese touch screen subsidiary. Further, it has converted its generation 4, 4.5 and 5 fabs into touch screen-making facilities.
