Mitrastar expects networking and communication ODM business to take off in 2011

Networking and communication equipment ODM Mitrastar Technology has cultivated market segments for fiber-optics and ADSL broadband communications as well as mobile broadband Internet-access equipment for a while, and expects to see fruition beginning 2011, according to the company.
Originally the ODM business unit of ZyXEL Communications (Unizyx Holding), Mitrastar was spun off in October 2010.
Mitrastar expects to see business opportunities for fiber-optic equipment in Europe and China in 2011, either EPON or GPON, the company indicated. In particular, Mitrastar will enter China Telecom’s open-bid for EPON procurement in January 2011.
Mitrastar has focused ADSL marketing on China and has cooperated with local companies to set up joint ventures to provide maintenance services required for open-bid procurement of ADSL equipment, the company indicated. To avoid intense price competition, Mitrastar’s market niche lies in 2-port and 4-port ADSL equipment with WLAN functions, the company pointed out.
As for mobile broadband Internet-access equipment, Mitrastar started small-volume shipments of femtocells in the third quarter of 2010, with shipments increasing in the fourth quarter, and are expected to further increase in 2011.
Mitrastar’s existing main clients include NEC, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks as well as China-based Huawei Technologies and ZTE.
