NEW ORLEANS—The Morial Convention Center in New Orleans now owns a common wireless carrier signal distribution network that supports wireless use by customers of Alltel, Cingular Wireless, Nextel, Sprint PCS, Verizon Wireless and VoiceStream.
Jimmie Fore, general manager and president of the Morial Convention Center, said that Morial’s ownership of the network is the most significant factor of the installation.
“This allows us to regulate wireless services in the building, which is a major milestone,” Fore said.
The network collects the carriers’ signals and uses a new, dedicated fiber-optic cabling network to deliver a low-power radio signal throughout the building.
Mikom, a division of Allen Telecom, provided a wireless distribution system that allows the multiple carriers, some with different technologies, to use the same system.
