Sun presents overall wireless strategy in Cannes

CANNES, France—Sun Microsystems made several announcements relating to the company’s overall wireless strategy at this week’s 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France.

  • The company demonstrated how its mobile offerings, which are based on Sun ONE, Java technology, and iForce Best-of-Breed partners, can increase revenue and customer retention and speed time-to-market for wireless operators.
  • Sun also demonstrated new m-service prototypes based on Java technology that offer carriers cost-effective, rapidly developed services that meet user expectations for ease of use, efficiency and security.
  • Sun announced it’s new integrated hardware/software platform for wireless and IP networks. The platform uses Sun’s Netra High Availability Suite 2.0 software to allow carriers to develop next-generation network infrastructures.
  • The company also announced new wireless service capabilities and an expanded support program. Sun’s new suite of wireless consulting services will help customers construct scalable, flexible and secure environments. In addition, Openwave Systems joined the SunVIP Program, an initiative that focuses on providing cooperative, interoperability support to end-users.
