John Roese to head up Huawei's R&D efforts in North America

Despite a run of recent setbacks in the United States, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is making strategic moves, including hires, to keep its big plans for the U.S. market alive.
John Roese, former CTO at Nortel Networks, is now joining the company as SVP and GM of Huawei North America R&D. Roese has been working on network convergence and emerging technologies in the wireless space for almost two decades. He will be based in Huawei’s North America R&D headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif.
“It is with great pleasure to have someone of John’s reputation join Huawei. John is a true visionary and a leader with a proven track record in driving technology advancements,” Matt Bross, co-president of Huawei USA, said in a prepared statement. “John is a valuable asset to Huawei as we continue to increase our investment in innovation in this market.”
For his part, Roese adds: “Innovation has long been the driving force behind Huawei’s success, and I am looking forward to working closely with some of the brightest minds in the industry in developing world-class solutions.”
