South Africa’s Cell C to launch services Saturday

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—Cell C, the third cellular license operator in South Africa, plans to officially go live on Saturday, 17 November. The operator announced at Telecom Africa 2001 this week that it will initially offer a prepaid package, Easy Chat, on a dual-band cellular network.

The company signed a roaming agreement with one of the two incumbents, Vodacom, and will launch nationally at 2,400 distribution points. It is hoping to capture 25 percent to 30 percent of the current cellular market in South Africa.
