SEOUL, South Korea—Samsung said it increased its involvement in China Unicom’s CDMA network and will provide a test 1x network for the operator, which plans to launch CDMA services next year. The 1x networks will be set up separately from the current-generation networks now under construction, Samsung said in a statement.
Seven different vendors will establish networks in different regions, with Samsung operating a Shanghai network. Final vendor selections will be made for a full-scale 1x project next year.
Samsung received orders for US$120 million worth of CDMA equipment in China Unicom’s first tender in May and won a subsequent US$20 million order in October.
