Motorola says global market share jumped to 18 % in 3Q

SINGAPORE—Motorola said sales of new products have led its global market share to jump to 18 percent in the third quarter, an increase from the 14.8-percent market share it recorded in the second quarter.

The company held 14.8 percent of the market in the second quarter, after Nokia, which had a 34.8-percent market share.
Motorola recently posted net losses of US$1.4 billion for the third quarter and announced total job cuts for 2001 will reach 39,000 positions, or 26 percent of the work force.
