LONDON—Vodafone Group said it will cut about 600 jobs in the United Kingdom by January. The world’s largest mobile carrier said it does not plan cuts in its numerous operations outside the United Kingdom.
International press reports said the cuts are part of the company’s move to increase revenues and about one-third of the redundancies would be at its Newbury headquarters.
The layoffs are one of the first such announcements from a wireless operator, which have been somewhat immune to the ills affecting mobile vendors that have laid off thousands of workers during the year.
