MetroPCS launches first WM 6.1 device

MetroPCS Communications Inc. continued its roll out of higher-tier handsets with the launch of its first Microsoft Corp. Windows Mobile 6.1-powered device, the Samsung Code. The device, which is priced at $300, includes Microsoft’s gaggle of tools including contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, voice recorded and Windows Live, as well as an optional WizPro interface designed to allow users to customize their home screen.
The device includes Microsoft’s Outlook Mobile service that allows users to retrieve their Outlook or Exchange server e-mail on the device. The Code also includes support for MetroPCS’ 3G network, a 2-megapixel camera and a QWERTY keyboard.
The individual service plan for the device runs $50 per month without a contract and includes unlimited domestic calls, domestic and international text messaging, data services including e-mail services and the carrier’s navigation service. The plan is similar to the one offered for the Research In Motion Ltd. BlackBerry 8330, which runs RIM’s BlackBerry OS.
