BEIJING—Motorola said it has signed a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) end-to-end contract to expand China Mobile networks for an undisclosed amount in seven major Chinese provinces and municipalities.
The deal, which also includes the supply of GPRS support equipment from Cisco Systems, allows Motorola to upgrade China Mobile’s existing GSM networks in the seven provinces, as well as 10 other provinces and special municipalities increasing the subscriber capacity by up to 350,000. The provinces are Beijing, Tianjin, Zhejing, Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangxi and Liaoning.
The activities specified in the contracts are to be completed by the end of the year. Part of the equipment is supplied by Motorola’s factory in Tianjin.
