LUXEMBOURG—Millicom International Cellular S.A. has been awarded licenses to develop GSM 1800 wireless telephony in Rostov-on-Don, Izhevsk, Kemerovo, Irkutsk and Omskand surrounding regions.
The five regional licenses each have a ten-year duration and roll-out of Tele2, a GSM product, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2002. “We are optimistic that we will be awarded additional GSM licenses in cities across Russia where we currently operate networks,” added Marc Beuls, MIC’s president and chief executive officer.
