BUCHAREST, Romania—The board of directors of Enitel AS, in consultation with the company’s debt committee, has decided to hand in a petition for bankruptcy for the Enitel ASA subsidiary.
The board of directors, the administration of Enitel AS and the debt committee are working to ensure the operations continue through new owner constellations to take care of customers and employees. Despite the presentation of a new business plan, Enitel AS did not succeed in its search for new capital to continue its operations.
After the meetings between Enitel’s administration and representatives for the debt committee, Telenor and the Norwegian Ministry of Transport clarified that Enitel’s customer obligations will be looked after in such a way that there will not be a disruption in customer service.
The exchange listed Enitel ASA is not affected by the subsidiary’s bankruptcy.
Enitel is Norway’s second-largest turnkey supplier of telecommunications services to both companies and private individuals. Enitel and Finnish mobile company Sonera are joint owners of Broadband Mobile, which was awarded one of four Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) licenses granted in Norway.
