HELSINKI, Finland—Nokia Corp. has lost some of its market share in the handset business, while L.M. Ericsson has climbed up to the No. 3 spot, according to the latest survey by Gartner Dataquest.
Although Nokia remains the market leader, its market share dropped to 34.8 percent from 35.3 percent. Motorola is still second with 14.8 percent, gaining market share, like Ericsson, from its 13.2 percent last year. Ericsson’s merger with Sony is believed to set the stage for stiffer competition for Nokia.
Siemens AG dropped from the third position to fourth, while Samsung Electronics, whose profile in that space is rising fast, comes up fifth, according to the report.
