DURHAM, North Carolina, United States—Pinpoint Networks released the newest version of its mobile applications platform, Fuel, which the company said will allow carriers to bill for content on a per-use and subscription basis.
“Fuel enhances a carrier’s mobile offering by enabling billing for mobile content and applications, and serving as the essential link between the carriers, application developers and mobile subscribers,” said Jud Bowman, president and co-founder of Pinpoint.
The product is a nod toward Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo and its i-mode service. Many in the industry point to DoCoMo’s revenue-sharing business model with content developers as a major reason for its success.
Along with the release of Fuel, Pinpoint also announced a developer program and the addition of a major new customer. Canadian carrier Rogers AT&T Wireless purchased Pinpoint’s unified search and directory engine, which will allow the carrier’s subscribers to search for a wide range of mobile content and applications.
