STI files counterclaim to ISCO patent charges

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—Superconductor Technologies Inc. has filed an answer and counterclaim to ISCO International Inc.’s complaint filed July 17 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
The ISCO complaint alleges that STI’s SuperFilter product infringes its U.S. Patent No. 6,263,215, referred to as the ‘215 Patent, which was issued the same day the complaint was filed. Following a review and investigation of the complaint, STI has denied the allegations and is seeking a formal declaration that the ‘215 patent is invalid and not infringed.
“We strongly believe that ISCO’s complaint is without merit,” said M. Peter Thomas, president and chief executive officer of STI. “We intend to mount a vigorous defense in this case and our filing marks the start of that process.”
