COLLEGE STATION, Texas-NetNearU, a company that provides management and reporting software for wired and wireless Internet-based systems, announced its plans to introduce its new wireless public Internet access point product later this month at HITEC 2001 in Orlando.
The NetNearU wireless access point comes with management software embedded in it and does not require a server on site. It allows entrepreneurs to provide high-speed wireless Internet access to customers on a pay-per-use or subscription basis. NetNearU believes it will also be used by establishments like hotels, hospitals, airports, stores and restaurants that want to offer cost-effective wireless Internet services to customers.
Users within range of an access point on NetNearU’s WLAN can access the Internet on laptops or handheld devices equipped with wireless networking cards. The technology uses the 802.11b wireless standard.
