Norway agrees to reduce Telenor stake

OSLO, Norway-Norway’s government is willing to reduce its current 78 percent of telecom company Telenor to 34 percent, according to international press reports. Previously, the government had said it would maintain a 51-percent controlling stake in the company.

The statements were made by Norway’s Trade and Industry Minister Grete Knudsen, the reports said.

Rumors are circulating regarding the many possible mergers and acquisitions under discussion in the Nordic region. Norway’s strong control over Telenor is seen as a drawback for many companies with which it could partner.
