BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless signed an agreement with Rural Cellular Corp. Minnesota Inc. to acquire a 10 MHz personal communications services license covering the southern Oregon Basic Trading Areas of Medford-Grants Pass, Roseburg, Bend and Klamath Falls. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Verizon said it would use the license to fill in its national wireless footprint to the north of its current California and Nevada network and to the south and east of its operations in Salem and Eugene, Ore. The license covers approximately 576,000 potential customers.
RCC said it would use proceeds from the sale to reduce company debt.
The sale is expected to close during the second half of the year.
