Alamosa adds 55,000 subscribers for period

LUBBOCK, Texas-Alamosa Holdings Inc. added 55,353 net subscribers during the first quarter, including 10,337 net subscriber additions from recently acquired Southwest PCS. Alamosa’s total subscriber base stood at 261,345 customers at the end of the quarter, including 50,202 customers from Southwest.

The carrier also reported its churn rate fell from 2.9 percent during the fourth quarter of 2000, to 2.6 percent during the first quarter of this year.

“We are very pleased with our first-quarter net subscriber additions and our declining churn,” said David Sharbutt, chief executive officer of Alamosa. “We continue to experience excellent incremental penetration with combined subscribers of 261,345 as of March 31, 2001, a penetration of 2.8 percent.”

Alamosa said it expects net subscriber additions for the year of between 220,000 and 260,000 customers, with churn in the 2.5-percent to 3-percent range.
