Baidu will integrate the Qualcomm Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform into its XiRang metaverse platform
Chinese internet giant Baidu announced this week on social media that it has partnered with Qualcomm announced on extended reality (XR) and metaverse technologies to create a new metaverse platform and services. According to Chinese news agencies, Baidu stated non-binding memorandum of understanding also includes joint work around generative AI.
While few details have been made public, Baidu shared that the plan is to combine its cloud and AI technologies with other platforms to develop applications for a variety of industries, including citing tourism, education and sports. The company added, specifically, that by integrating Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform and related XR technologies into its XiRang metaverse platform, it will be able to build XR applications and content more quickly.
At the 2017 Snapdragon Technology Summit, the pair announced a collaboration to optimize Baidu’s DuerOS conversational AI system for smartphones on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform to support a complete AI voice and smart assistant solution for global smartphone and IoT devices.
As of 2020, Baidu has also been working with Intel on a series of collaborations that touch on AI, 5G, data center and cloud computing infrastructure. “In China, the most important thing for developing an industry ecosystem is to truly take root in the local market and its users’ needs,” Rui Wang, Intel vice president in the sales and marketing group and PRC country manager, said at the time. “With the full-speed development of ‘new infrastructure’ and 5G, China has entered the stage of accelerated development of the industrial internet.”
