Applied Wave Research appointed Ronald Patston as vice president of marketing. Prior to joining AWR, Patston held several positions in various companies in the wireless and EDA industry including Agilent Technologies, Verticom Inc. and Hewlett Packard. As VP of marketing, Patston will lead AWR’s development and marketing of high frequency EDA tools.

Airwire.net Inc.

Eugene Connell was elected president and chief operating officer of Airwire.net Inc. Connell has held many top-level executive positions in the telecommunications industry. He was featured in a cover story of the international edition of Fortune Magazine for his leadership and achievements as chief executive officer and president of Nynex Cable Comms Inc. He also has held executive positions at Lynch Interactive Corp. and Golden Triangle, Can! Ada. At the time of his election, Connell also was serving as a board member of Airwire.net. In addition, Jon M. Knight has been elected to Airwire.net’s board of directors. Knight formerly served on Airwire.net’s technology advisory board. As president of Sentinel International Asset Management Ltd., a Bahamas-based investment management company specialized in levered capital investing for international clients, Knight is responsible for product development and quantitative analysis systems used for investment opportunities. Knight also is vice president of Atlantic Portfolio Analytics & Management Inc., a U.S. financial technology company.

Radiant Networks

Virendra Patel was appointed vice president of business strategy and marketing at Radiant Networks. Patel has experience in international business including sales, marketing, business strategy and planning. He most recently was senior manager of business planning and strategy at Cisco’s European headquarters, where he led Cisco into third-generation communications.

US Unwired Inc.

Tamalyn Hendry Williams has been promoted to general office supervisor at US Unwired. Her responsibilities include supervision of all administration staff for US Unwired’s corporate office. Williams also will requisition and receive supplies and materials used by the administration team and order furniture for Sprint PCS stores in US Unwired markets. Since she started with the company in 1989, Williams has held several positions, including receiving supervisor and customer service supervisor.

Telephia

Telephia Inc. named Ben Swiggett chief marketing officer. Swiggett is responsible for strategic and business-planning and will oversee the company’s marketing, sales and client services operations. His background experience is in sales technologies, database marketing and consumer analysis, including 22 years of experience in selling and marketing information service, software and building brands. In the past, he served as executive vice president of account management and client services at IRI and most recently as vice president of sales and client services at Primary Knowledge Inc., a startup that provides e-businesses with customer insights and performance measurements across integrated data sources. “Telephia today is well-positioned o experience the same explosive growth that I helped to deliver at IRI. I’m eager to use the knowledge I gained there to help Telephia build on its successful track record of providing invaluable market intelligence to the wireless industry,” Swiggett said of his new position.

UBS Warburg

Jeffrey Sine will join UBS Warburg as managing director and vice chairman of the investment banking department. In this position, he will be the company’s global head of technology, media and telecom investment banking. Previously, Sine served as global head of media investment banking at Morgan Stanley. At that firm, Sine worked with companies including Time Warner, AOL, Turner Broadcasting, Viacom, CBS, Seagrams, Vivendi and Mediaset. John Costas, president and chief operating officer of UBS Warburg said, “We believe we have hired the best talent on Wall Street. We intend to make UBS Warburg the firm of choice for entrepreneurial, client-driven investment bankers.”

Mobile Wireless Technologies

Mark Ramsaier joined Mobile Wireless Technologies as chief operating officer. Ramsaier, a board advisor to several high technology businesses, brings 30 years of experience in management, marketing and business development to the company. He held advisory roles with firms including Xerox, FileNet, Lucent, Hitachi and MWT’s predecessor company. He also has served in management roles with Xerox, Memorex and Texas Instruments and worked with Ventura Publisher and Aldus during the emergence of the desktop publishing industry.

Daniels & Associates

Daniels & Associates promoted Kevin Reidy to vice president. In this position, Reidy will provide financial advisor services on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and other financial services to Daniels Telecommunications Group clients. Since 1998, Reidy has facilitated several transactions in various sectors of the telecommunications business and completed technical and analytical projects, financial analyses, due-diligence reports and offering materials for Daniels. Before joining Daniels, Reidy spent 10 years as a CPA with Price Waterhouse. He is a graduate of the business school at the University of Colorado.

Equitel Inc.

Equitel Inc. named Eugene Whitmire chief financial officer. Whitmire will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the accounting/finance function, including SEC reporting, treasury and internal controls. During his 25-year career, Whitmire has specialized in mergers and acquisitions, debt restructure, SEC filings and reporting, business models, cash management and corporate tax planning and preparation. He was vice president of finance and treasurer at Telerent Leasing Corp. for 12 years, and spent several years as vice president and general manager of its telecommunications division.

American Tower Corp.

American Tower Corp. announced the appointment of Norman A. Bikales to executive vice president, special counsel. In this position, he will focus on structuring, negotiating, and documenting selected transactions. Bikales formerly was a member of Sullivan & Worcester L.L.P., where he concentrated on mergers, acquisitions and security matters. Bikales also is currently a member of the board of directors of Verestar Inc., a subsidiary of American Tower. Steve Dodge, chairman and CEO of American Tower, described Bikales as “one of the most client responsive people we have ever worked with,” and said, “having him on our senior team everyday is really going to help us.”

Convergys

Steve Nagy was appointed vice president, Latin America, of Convergys Corp. Nagy, located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is responsible for Convergys’ overall operations in Latin America, including support for current customers and new business development. Before joining Convergys, Nagy developed business solutions and opportunities and was responsible for IT operations for Enron across South America. He also has held management-level position for Origin Brazil and Crescendo Software.

SkyGo

SkyGo Inc., a wireless marketing company, has named Bruce Mello executive vice president of sales. Mello will lead the company’s sales efforts as it expands domestically and internationally into Asia and Europe. SkyGo said 2000 marked a year of growth as it recruited leaders from the wireless telecommunications, Internet content and online advertising industries to become part of its executive team, which is complete with Mello. Mello currently holds a seat on the board of the Wireless Advertising Association. Previously, as senior vice president and general manager of 24/7 Media’s Wireless, Broadband & Emerging Media Division, Mello oversaw operation in the United States and Europe. “Bruce clearly adds a wealth of advertising industry experience to our proven management team,
” commented Daren Tsui, co-founder and CEO of SkyGo.

DigiPlex

In completing the recruitment of a st
rong management team, DigiPlex S.A., the pan-European provider of carrier neutral collocation facilities (MegaPlexes), appointed Byrne Murphy president, Keith Chamberlain chief engineer and John Weston vice president of operations. Murphy previously was co-founder of BAA McArthurGlen, Europe’s largest owner and operator of factory outlet retail complexes, where he was responsible for the company’s establishment and expansion across Europe. At DigiPlex, Murphy will lead the company in growth and delivery of support and service to European customers. Chamberlain joins DigiPlex to ensure the internal design and infrastructure of the facilities meet the different requirement of customers. He has been involved in the telecommunications sector as head of infrastructure deployment at Orange. Weston, previously a director at the Swiss-based infrastructure and solutions company, Sulzer, will be responsible for the ongoing operations management in DigiPlex facilities. As intended, Geir Ramleth, chairman and chief executive of DigiPlex, will step down from his current position and relocate to the United States, where he will join the company’s board of directors. Ramleth said, “These appointments complete the management expertise needed to take DigiPlex forward. …My role as board director based in the U.S. will enable me to further advise DigiPlex to accommodate the converging markets.”

IPCA

The International Prepaid Communications Association’s board of directors recently elected a new slate of officers. President will be Rick March, currently president of MHA Communications of Chicago. Scott Cohen of AT&T will serve as vice president. A new post, vice president for planning, will be occupied by Bob Charish of Viatel/Econophone, also current chairman of the board. And Atlantax’s Ron Clark will act as secretary/treasurer of the association.

Fantasma Networks

Dale Hatfield, former chief of the FCC’s Office of Engineering and Technology, was named technical adviser for Fantasma Networks, an ultra-wideband manufacturer.

E-copernicus.com

Greg Rohde is forming E-copernicus.com, a consulting firm specializing in business strategies for emerging technology and Internet-based businesses and companies engaged in electronic and mobile commerce. Rohde formerly served as Commerce assistant secretary for telecommunications and information.

Podesta/Mattoon

Dan Mattoon joined the government affairs and public-relation firm of Podesta.com, which was renamed Podesta/Mattoon. Last year, Mattoon took a sabbatical from his post as vice president for congressional affairs at BellSouth to act as deputy chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. In addition to his NRCC duties, Mattoon was a member of President Bush’s transition advisory committee on the FCC.

National Governors’ Association

Frank Principi was named senior legislative associate at the National Governors’ Association. Principi will handle telecommunications issues. Previously, he served as legislative assistant to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Senate Republican High-Tech Task Force

Steve Verdery, who formerly worked in the Senate Majority Whip’s office (Nickles of Oklahoma), has been named staff director of the Senate Republican High-Tech Task Force.

FCC

Richard Ellis was named to the FCC’s Consumer/Disability Telecom Advisory Committee. Ellis is the director of federal affairs for Verizon Communications.

Cellular Carriers Association of California

Susan Pedersen has been named executive director of the Cellular Carriers Association of California. Pedersen formerly held a position on the California Public Utilities Commission.

UWCC

The vice president for international affairs for BellSouth Corp, Frank Urbany, was elected chairman of the Universal Wireless Communications Consortium.

Qwest

Qwest Communications Inc.appointed Thomas Donohue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to its board. Donohue replaces former board member George Harad, who resigned.

Qualcomm Inc.

James Clifford was promoted to senior vice president of CDMA technologies at Qualcomm Inc.

Verizon

Michael Gulledge has been named vice president of marketing of the wireless division of Verizon Communications. Gulledge formerly worked for Glenayre Electronics.

Hewlett-Packard

Phil Bond, who previously served on the Information Technology Industry Council, has been named director of federal public policy for Hewlett-Packard Co.

Arch Wireless

Arch Wireless has named Frank Brilliant vice president of the business solutions group. Brilliant formerly worked for BizRate.com.

Pacific Broadband Communications

Sydney Carey has joined Pacific Broadband Communications as chief financial officer. Carey formerly worked with Entera. Clint Tripoli, also formerly of Entera has joined Pacific Broadband Communications as vice president of human resources.

BellSouth Corp.

Barry Boniface, formerly of Cypress Communications, has been named vice president for corporate development for BellSouth Corp. Ronald Fierson has been promoted to chief diversity officer.

Burst Wireless

Burst Wireless, a provider of wireless Internet service, announced the hire of Sherry Browne as vice president, chief information officer and Joe Plomin as vice president, chief sales and marketing officer. The company said the two will play a critical role in preparing for the introduction of Burst’s wireless Internet service in 2001. Browne will be responsible for Burst’s overall information services strategy, lead development and implementation of business and operational support systems and customer care. She most recently served as CIO at Sprint PCS. Plomin comes to Burst from Delco Remy International, where he was senior vice president of sales and marketing. He plans to implement a comprehensive marketing strategy at Burst.

Phone Online

Phone Online, a provider of mobile data applications, announced the addition of Terry Moore as executive vice president of business development. Moore formerly served as a partner at KPMG Consulting and also held management positions at IBM Corp.for 13 years. With 20 years of international business consulting experience behind him, Moore will develop Phone Online’s best-of-breed wireless products and services to further penetrate the market and meet the growing demand for wireless information services.

Unimobile

Unimobile Inc., a global provider of wireless data services, has announced the appointment of two senior executives that the company hopes will help drive its expansion efforts. Gloria Maceiko will be vice president of sales and business development and Dr. Christopher Kantarjiev will be chief technology officer. According to Vas Bhandarkar, president and chief executive officer of Unimobile, “These new appointments will strengthen Unimobile’s competitiveness in the wireless data services marketplace.” Maceiko has more than 18 years experience in sales, including 10 years at AT&T. Most recently, she led sales effort at PacketStream Inc. At Unimobile, she will be responsible for building the sales organization. Kantarjiev is considered an expert in distributed networks and platforms, and also has experience with hardware, operating systems, networks, Window systems and applications. With a Ph.D. in Distributed Computing from Purdue University, he holds several patents on distributed networking. In his new position, he will manage all aspects of product development, technology, software architecture and security of Unimobile’s worldwide network.

Cingular Wireless

Cingular Wireless named F. Thaddeus Arroyo chief information officer. In this position, he will be responsible for developing application systems, including integrating a new billing system, and he will oversee Cingular’s info
rmation technology organization. Arroyo most recently served as senior vice president of product marketing and development at Sabre Inc., where he was responsible for i
nfrastructure development, deployment and strategic technology planning. He “will play a pivotal role in advancing technology initiatives throughout our company, and I am glad to have someone with his experience and talent join the Cingular team,” said Stephen Carter, Cingular’s chief executive officer. Cingular Wireless also announced it appointed Tom Shevlot general manager of Cingular Wireless’s Greensboro, N.C., property. Shevlot began his career almost a decade ago with BellSouth Mobility and recently, served as its sales director in Knoxville, Tenn. Shevlot attended Taylor University in Upland Indiana and received a graduate degree from Indiana/Kennedy Western University.

TeleMessage

TeleMessage, a provider of universal messaging services, appointed Mark Carlin vice president of business development. Carlin will oversee all operations in the United States. Carlin has 16 years of high-tech software sales and marketing experience, most recently from Quadrant Software, and previously from AccuSoft and PADS Software and Hewlett-Packard Co.

Schema

Schema Group Ltd., a provider of telecom resource management software and services for wireless networks, added two new executives to its board of directors. Mike Mers, managing director for BRM Capital, and William Kingsley, managing director for EnerTech Capital Partners. Both bring experience in telecommunications and strategic investing to Schema. Kingsley has experience with Lucent Technologies Inc. and Comcast Corp., while Mers brings his experiences with Intel Capital. Of the appointments, Eyal Kaplan, chairman of Schema, said, “They complement what is already a very strong board, with a good balance of professional venture capitalists and outside, industry executives.”

FieldCentrix

Tracy Price, co-founder of FieldCentrix and former president and chief executive officer of Mesa Energy Systems, was named president and CEO of FieldCentrix. “Tracy Price is known within the field service industry for his vision in using technology and advanced business techniques to improve revenues and enhance customer service. As FieldCentrix products are installed throughout the industry, this experience will be invaluable to the company and its customers,” said Brad Jones, a member of FieldCentrix’s board of directors. As president and CEO, Price will lead Fieldcentrix in providing wireless and Internet-based software to the field service industry.

Motient

Motient Corp., a provider of two-way mobile and Internet communications services, appointed Jonelle St. John, former chief financial officer of MCI WorldCom International, to its board of directors. St. John began her career in 1976 with Arthur Andersen and worked with Telecom USA before joining MCI in 1990. Walter V. Purnell Jr., president and chief executive officer of Motient, said, “Her experience in such areas as financial risk management and financing strategies for acquisitions and joint ventures will bring an added dimension to our board.”

Sierra Wireless

Mar McMillan has been named Sierra Wireless’s vice president of marketing. McMillan will lead the company’s global product management, marketing and customer support initiatives. McMillan has more than 15 years of experience with data communications, and most recently held executive positions with eSAT Inc., a wireless service provider and ICN, an international wholesale carrier. “I look forward to building on our current relationships with partners and customers and enhancing the Sierra Wireless position and reputation within the wireless industry,” said McMillan.

Wireless Online

Palm Inc.’s chief strategy officer, Doug Solomon, joined Wireless Online’s board of directors. At Palm, he is responsible for defining an integrated corporate strategy and driving Palm’s mergers and acquisitions and venture investment efforts. In his 20 years in the information industry, Solomon also has held positions at Interval Research Corp. and Apple Computer. Neil Cox, president of SecurityLink from Ameritech, has also joined the Wireless Online board. Greg Oslan, chairman, president and CEO of Wireless Online, said, “Doug’s knowledge of wireless devices and applications is the ideal complement to the networking knowledge provided by Wireless Online’s other new board member, Neil Cox. Our highly experienced and well-rounded board will enable Wireless Online to build on our current success by helping us to maintain an integrated, complete vision of the wireless marketplace.”

TeleFlage

TeleFlage Corp., a company that camouflages antenna sites with existing architectural features, hired Jon Mitchell as national sales director. Mitchell’s 14 years in the telecommunications and screening industries include serving as western regional manager of Stealth Network Technologies and as sales and marketing manager for Tower Structures.

InPhonic

InPhonic, developer and manager of virtual private wireless networks and branded, custom wireless communities, has appointed Walter Leach as corporate counsel. Leach comes to InPhonic from Brann, Brann NRS and Circle.com, subsidiaries of Snyder Communications Inc., where he was also corporate counsel. He also served as deputy corporate counsel for Inductotherm Industries Inc. InPhonic also recently added Mark Kimsey to its board of advisors. Kimsey is the chairman, president and chief executive officer of GKZ Inc. and a founding partner of PRIME Management Partners L.L.C. During his career, Kimsey has also worked as a principal at Band of America Securities L.L.C. and with the Equity Research Department at Merrill Lynch. Of the appointments, David Steinberg, founder and chief executive officer of InPhonic, said, “Good times require good people, and this appointment will allow us to accommodate our continued success.”

CTIA

CTIA announced promotions of Steve Berry, Mike Altschul and Christina Martin to senior vice president positions. Berry now serves as SVP of governmental affairs and will be responsible for advocacy efforts at both Congress and the FCC. This is an expansion of the SVP of congressional affairs position he has held since 1997. Before joining CTIA, Berry spent more than 18 years in various senior position on Capitol Hill and in the State Department. Altschul is now SVP of policy and administration. Altschul will remain general counsel, the position he has held since 1990, and also be responsible for research, external affairs, and CTIA administration. Before 1990, Altschul served 10 years working on communications matters in the Justice Department’s antitrust division. Martin, who has been with CTIA since 1999, now serves as SVP of public affairs and communications, responsible for media and outreach activities. She previously held various political communications/ spokesperson positions including serving for two years as press secretary to Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Also, Stacy O’Brien, who has been with CTIA since 1997, was promoted to director of public relations to oversee all media related to wireless Internet.

NSMA

Chris Hardy, vice president of Spectrum Management Solutions at Comsearch, has been selected by the National Spectrum Managers Association to serve as its president. Hardy will lead the membership in its efforts to improve coordination processes involved with spectrum management and interference-related issues. He began working at Comsearch in 1981.
