WASHINGTON-BellSouth Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Duane Ackerman told reporters at the Precursor Group annual conference that the country’s third-largest local telephone company had no plans to cut its work force, in light of recent cuts made by telecom competitors Verizon Communications and WorldCom.
“I think BellSouth is in reasonably good shape,” Ackerman said. “While we have seen some softening of the market, in the Southeast you haven’t seen significant downside. We’ve paid a lot of attention to force growth over time.”
